Besa

In 2012, Besa launched a mission to reinvent the volunteer experience. Besa was built as a solution to two questions: What if finding volunteer opportunities could be easier? And what if giving back was a part of everyday life?

Besa founder and CEO, Matthew Goldstein, was succeeding in his career at Abercrombie & Fitch. But the weekend calls he took as a suicide hotline volunteer crushed him. He wanted to do more, and his colleagues did, too. But they struggled to find volunteer experiences. The need was clear. The desire to give was, too. So Matthew built the bridge—Besa. Lift one, he believes, and you lift us all.

Since 2012, Besa has engaged more than 81,000 volunteers to give 210,000 hours of community service—creating over $97 million in community impact.

At Besa, we believe that diversity strengthens our community. Our mission is rooted in the idea that bringing diverse groups of people together drives innovation and change. Everyone is welcome, so we can be the good, together.

Across the country, volunteerism—an essential part of civic engagement—is at a record low. It’s reached a point where the lack of volunteers strains the safety net that nonprofits provide to many of society’s most vulnerable.

Besa is defying the volunteer shortage in Central Ohio. We serve as a resource and reinforcement for nonprofits, neighborhoods and civic groups.

  • For Businesses: We transform philanthropic engagement to engage employees with community service through strategic planning, volunteer management and philanthropy software.

  • For Individuals: We curate more than 70 volunteer experiences each month for community members to easily find and connect to nonprofits in need of volunteer support.

  • For Nonprofits: We build capacity by supporting volunteer recruitment and management so nonprofit employees can focus on other mission-critical work.
