Position Overview
The Executive Director (ED) works in close partnership with the Board of Directors to uphold and advance the organization’s mission. The ED is responsible for leading strategic initiatives, ensuring financial sustainability, and managing day-to-day operations. This role requires a dynamic leader with experience in nonprofit or social enterprise management, fundraising, and community engagement.
The ED will report to and collaborate with the Board of Directors, ensuring that FCW remains aligned with its mission, governance best practices, and strategic goals. The Board provides oversight and support in key areas such as fundraising, financial stewardship, and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Planning
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to define and implement FCW’s strategic vision and long-term goals.
Align annual budgets and operational plans with organizational priorities.
Provide regular updates to the Board, fostering strong communication and partnership.
Foster an inclusive culture reflecting FCW’s values and promoting equity and transportation justice.
Fundraising and Development
Work alongside the Board to develop and execute fundraising strategies, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and corporate sponsorships.
Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, foundations, and community partners.
Support Board-led fundraising initiatives and provide insights on revenue growth opportunities.
Plan and execute campaigns and events to diversify and expand funding sources.
Community Engagement
Act as the public face of FCW, advocating for cycling as a sustainable and empowering transportation option.
Build partnerships with local organizations, government entities, and businesses to further FCW’s mission.
Oversee programs like Bikes for Independence, collaborating with partners to secure sponsorships.
Operations and Financial Management
Oversee daily operations, including retail and repair services, ensuring efficiency and mission alignment.
Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with the Board’s finance committee, ensuring transparency and fiscal responsibility.
Supervise staff, volunteers, and community members, focusing on professional development and performance.
Collaborate with the Board of Directors on key financial and operational decisions.
Qualifications
Proven track record in nonprofit or social enterprise leadership, including team management and program development.
Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors, understanding governance and nonprofit best practices.
Visionary approach to growth and mission advancement.
Demonstrated success in securing diverse funding sources, including grants, sponsorships, and donations.
Experience in planning and executing successful fundraising events and campaigns.
Deep passion for cycling and equity, with involvement in social enterprise or mission-driven organizations preferred.
Knowledge of bicycle culture and sustainable transportation is a plus.
Strong financial management capabilities, including budgeting and compliance.
Experience in staff supervision, development, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Strategic planning skills to address long-term organizational needs.
Compensation and Benefits
$60,000-$70,000 annual salary, commensurate with experience.
$2,000 annual healthcare-related expense stipend.
Two weeks of paid time off (PTO) annually, plus holidays and sick days.
