Join us on Wednesday, June 12th from 7:30-9am for a morning filled with connection, caffeine, and captivating conversation featuring community leaders from around Columbus. Coffee with a Cause will now be hosted at COhatch in Upper Arlington (inside The Overlook, a large event space made for team building, panels, and more). This time around, we’re tackling a crucial issue close to home: hunger in Columbus. Our esteemed panel of nonprofit thought-leaders will shed light on this pressing matter, sharing insights, experiences, and strategies for addressing hunger in our city.

Speaker Bios

Jeremy Brauning is the Volunteer Services Manager for the Mid-Ohio Food Collective, overseeing 17,000 volunteers annually.
Jeremy has been with the Food Collective for over 10 years in various roles, stepping into the role of Volunteer Services Manager in 2021. He is responsible for lesioning with the community while forging strong relationships with the volunteers. Jeremy and his team are very proud to have won City Scene’s “Best of the Bus, Best Volunteer Experience” seven consecutive years running.
A graduate of Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in History, Jeremy has extensive experience working with civic and community groups from various industries. In his spare time, Jeremy enjoys practicing yoga, going on hikes and cooking with his wife.

Leachuin (La Shawn) Dean Jr. serves as the Volunteers and Community Engagement Manager for Local Matters, a near Southside community focused organization whose mission is creating community through hands-on nutrition education, access, and advocacy work. Originally, he is from Cleveland, OH and has lived here in Columbus for the past 11 years after attending Ohio University. His background includes work in social services, with previous positions at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio and the YMCA of Central Ohio, Van Buren Shelter. He has also held several positions in retail management with most of his past employment positions having involved project and facility management, volunteer engagement, and youth development. Since taking root in Columbus, Leachuin has also become very involved in the community as a volunteer and invest his spare time in a variety of capacities, including the Auxiliary Director with the Linden McKinley Marching Band within Columbus City Schools, Vineyard Columbus VCK programming, and OSU LifeSports. Leachuin is passionate about giving back and also working with those who have passion for the well-being of inner-city youth and families. Leachuin lives in Columbus with his wife and two children.

Yohan Kim is the Heart to Heart Food Pantry Manager at First Community, overseeing operations, donations, volunteers, and client-facing activities. His role included transitioning the pantry into an effective operation during and after the pandemic, which spread logistics into multiple buildings and 2 endpoints for distribution: Drive-Thru and Pop-Up Pantry. Yohan’s background includes a BA in Film Studies from OSU and a varied work history spanning US Hair, MAPFRE Stadium, and Half Price Books in Columbus, plus background acting and entry-level film jobs during a stint in Los Angeles.
